Gathering and Virtual Town Hall.jpg

What:

Grab a beer or a beverage to discuss a serious yet taboo topic…women’s gray hair. Why do women color in the first place? Why are women held to different beauty standards vs. men? Why are women and girls causes so severely underfunded, and why does the gender equity gap exist? To get the discussion going, the gathering will feature:

  • Gwen Conley, Cutwater Spirits and PBS member

  • Julia Herz, HerzMuses Enterprises, one of the first PBS members and founder of Gray For Good

  • Jen Jordan, Pink Boots Society President, brewer at Laughing Monk Brewing, and videocast member of Gray For Good

  • Jeannie Sager, Director of Women’s Philanthropy Institute

Where: Zoom

When: Wednesday, July 28, 4 pm Pacific / 5 pm Mountain / 6 pm Central / 7 pm Eastern

How: Free to attend with a suggested event fee of $15 with a portion of profits going back to Pink Boots Society. All participation fees are counted toward the Gray For Good overall 2021 campaign goal of $1M.

Why: Gray For Good - For All Womanhood is a global grassroots campaign that celebrates women who choose not to color their gray hair (go gray for good) and use the savings to increase charitable giving to women and girls-focused causes. The end goal is to eradicate the gender equity gap within our lifetime. The economic and phycological costs of coloring gray are immense. Dollars wise, we estimate a staggering $20.6 billion per year is spent by American women coloring gray, money that instead could go to women and girls-focused causes. Women’s Philanthropy Institute, part of the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University, calculates the almost 50K women and girls causes (with the PBS as one of them) only received 1.6% of all giving in the U.S. in 2017.

Additionally, giving to women and girls of color is mere pocket change representing only 0.5% of giving by foundations, according to the Ms. Foundation for Women. COVID-19 spurred millions of women to stop coloring our gray. Gray For Good is positioned to leverage and fuel this collective moment by celebrating those who don’t color and motivating women to say I grayed, saved, and gave.
